Paul Terlesky Obituary

POLAND - Paul Stephen Terlesky, 83, formerly of Howland, passed away peacefully, Friday evening, April 19, 2024, at Poland Village Assisted Living.

Paul was born May 23, 1940, in Youngstown, a son of the late Stephen and Mary Betts Terlesky and was a lifelong Mahoning Valley Resident.

He was a 1958 graduate of The Rayen School and worked at General Motors Lordstown for 30 years before retiring in 2000.

His commitment to education and service led him to Youngstown State University, where he excelled both on the football field and in the classroom. As a recipient of a football scholarship, Paul played for the Penguins under the guidance of Coach Dike Beede. In 1963, he received his ROTC Commission as a 2nd Lieutenant and subsequently served in the army stationed in Germany until his honorable discharge in 1965. Paul continued his service in the Ohio National Guard, rising to the rank of Captain and assuming command of the former Youngstown National Guard Armory on Rayen Avenue.

Beyond his professional and military endeavors, Paul was known for his passion for sports, particularly football, and was a devoted fan of the Cleveland Browns, the Ohio State Buckeyes, and the YSU Penguins. As a testament to his loyalty, he held season tickets for YSU football and rarely missed a game. Paul was also an active member of the Penguin Club.

Outside of his commitments, Paul found solace in fishing, indulging in the serene pastime whenever he could.

He leaves to cherish his memory his two grandchildren, Todd Lough and Seth Lough; his sister, Mary Ann (Tom) Sweder of Struthers; two brothers, Ted (Mary Lou) Terlesky of Poland and John (Linda) Terlesky of Poland; several nieces and nephews; his former wife, Judith of Howland and many extended family members.

Paul was preceded in death by his son, Todd Terlesky, his daughter, Allison Lough and his godson, Michael Sweder.
